Wymondham College - Work Experience
Teaching Assistant
Just before the Christmas break I was trying to tie up some work experience at some secondary schools in my local area to Norwich, Norfolk and was fortunate enough to be able to attend; Wymondham College for a period of time as an acting teaching assistant working alongside the Art department, predominantly the photography classes. This consisted of one to one tutorials offering my advice to the students. The classes that I attended were students studying Photography at A-Level (Sixth Form).
Prior to be invited to come along and help I had to pursue this opportunity via a number of emails ans phone calls reaching out to a number of members whom all had varying roles until I was able to get hold of the Head of the Arts department. After some negotiating on dates; I met with the Head of Arts for an informal interview where I displayed some of my work and a small presentation to her and a number of other colleagues expressing my interests within the industry, my experiences, and works I have created both at University and personal work.
This opportunities enable me to build on my communication skills, reaching a high standard of professionalism and gaining experience in an industry that I would one day potentially like to seek a living in, to inspire the younger generations to express themselves through photography.
This opportunity along with numerous others that I have been fortunate to experience haven't come easy; and have come via a persistence to reach out, desire and most of all confidence that can take a big hit when you're contacting others with little or no replies. Persistence and confidence in your ability and your passion combined will help help create chances like this and many others.
